"Katsujinken" is a Japanese phrase that literally means "the sword that gives life". Katsujinken is an important and prominent concept in the Japanese bujutsu (warrior ways - what we teach here at Poway Martial Arts) because it teaches that martial skill must always serve a greater purpose.
Whether that purpose is protecting the weak, or helping a child improve their focus so they can get better grades, katsujinken is at the heart of what every good sensei (a martial arts teacher, literally "one who has gone before") teaches his or her students. And, it's a central theme for what we offer here at Poway Martial Arts.
